Two wolves within us - Story

Feeding a wolf and reaping likewise

I once heard a story told about a Cherokee grandfather who was teaching his grandson about the life principles of his tribe. The grandfather said ‘on the inside of every person is a battle raging between two wolves. One wolf is evil. It is angry, jealous, proud, lazy, spiteful, hurtful and unforgiving. The other wolf is good and kind and full of self control. These two wolves fight constantly.’  For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption.

but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. Galatians 6:8
The little grandson thought about this for a moment and then said ‘which wolf will win, Grandfather?’
The grandfather replied ‘whichever one you feed.’

Inside of us there is a constant war going on - to go the way of the spirit or the way of the flesh.
The one that wins is the one we feed each day.
What are you feeding? Do you complain all the time about your job or your spouse or your children?

If so, you are feeding the flesh and will reap only corruption, according to the Bible.
Your habits, whether good or bad determine your outcome. Did you know that statistics show that 90% of our behavior is based on habits?

That means how you treat people, how you talk whether negative or positive, how you spend your money?
how you eat is what you do 90% of the time. You are on auto pilot, only doing what you have always done.
Habits are a hard thing to break, but it is possible. It all begins with changing a mindset.
I often think about my childhood when I think about this.
You see, I was raised by a single Mom with four girls. We didn’t have a lot extra; frankly I don’t know how she did it. Growing up, I had no reason to think life could be better than that – I wasn’t raised that way and it wasn’t taught in my home. Yet, when I became born again and found scripture in the Bible that told me there was more, that told me Jesus died that I might have life and have it more abundantly - I believed it. And you know what I did?
I began to feed that truth in me. I read scriptures daily about it and I confessed that word over my life.
Do you know what happened? I began to have more – I began to have what I was saying.
You see, what you feed will win. If you are feeding unforgiveness you will always walk in forgiveness.

If you feed low self esteem, that is what you will have. If you go around saying ‘life stinks’ then I assure you life will continue to stink. However, if you begin to say what God says about your life by faith.
If you begin to feed your faith in that area, things will begin to change in your life. You have to say it before you will ever see it. If you have a tendency to be negative, change it today, feed your spirit with the word of God.
Don’t allow negative things to come out of your mouth. It’s your life and you are the prophet of your own life.
If you feed the flesh – everything you get will come from flesh - if you feed the spirit, you will experience life and life more abundantly.
You can change the attitude of your heart and you can change the words of your mouth, it is a simple choice.

Choose to be positive. Choose to see life through God’s eyes.
Choose to think on good things, feed the spirit and you win!
