Prayer in Preparation for Pentecost -3
Hymn:
Lord, our God, in
the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, we ask you to stir up within us the fullness
of your Holy Spirit. Help us to grow in our relationship with the Third Person
of your Holy Trinity and to live in his power and use his gifts.
Reading: Jn 14:15-17, 25-26
Hymn:
Our Response: Fill us
with the Gifts of the Holy Spirit (R/-)
1.
Holy
Spirit, Jesus asked the Father to give us the Spirit of Truth (John 14:17).
Help us to recognize you in the scriptures. Open our mind to understand your
truths, and open our hearts to accept your truths in faith even before we gain
right understanding. R/-
2.
Holy
Spirit, Jesus said, “The one who receives the seed that falls on good soil
hears the word and understands it. He produces an abundant crop” (Matt. 13:23).
Be the gardener of our lives. Nourish the seeds of heaven that you have already
placed within us and make it grow so that your love, your ways, and your
kingdom will always grow within us and produce much good fruit for others. R/-
3.
Holy
Spirit, Jesus said, “Do not worry about how you will defend yourselves or
what you will say, for the Holy Spirit will teach you what you should say”
(Luke 12:11-12). Help us to trust in you always. Help us to remember that with
you, nothing is impossible, and that you work everything according to what is
good and right and timely, even if it doesn’t seem so to us. R/-
4.
Holy
Spirit, Jesus said, “Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and
everything else you need will be given to you as well” (Matt. 6:33). Help us to
let go of all our unnecessary attachments. First help us to recognize what we
are attached to that is not of you, and then hold our hand as we walk away from
them. Give us the determination and the strength to let go so that we have no
other gods before us. We want only you. R/-

5.
Holy
Spirit, you are the Comforter. Help us to let go of the losses in our life.
Heal our heart. And help us to face our sinfulness and to feel genuine sorrow
for the damage ~ both intentional and unintentional ~ that we have inflicted on
others and in so doing have inflicted on Jesus. Comfort us as we mourn our need
for forgiveness, and give us your spirit of rejoicing over this new growth in
us. R/-
6.
Holy
Spirit, Jesus freely chose to suffer and die for us because of His
tremendous love for us. we have pains in our life ~ hurts, wounds, sufferings,
trials, difficulties ~ and we want to run from them. Strengthen us to follow in
Jesus’ footsteps so that we can walk our road to Calvary without fearing evil,
and lead us into our new life of victory and resurrection. R/-
7.
Holy
Spirit, Jesus said that He would not leave us orphans, but would send you
to us (John 14:18). How often we have wept or complained because it seemed like
you were not with us in our sorrows and sufferings! Help us to recognize your
presence in all situations. Help us to turn to you and find you, for you never
leave us nor abandon us. you care even more about us and our problems than we
do. you are working a plan for our benefit, to make good come from everything
that happens to us. Help us to discover your presence in every moment of our
life. R/-
8.
Holy
Spirit, you gave yourself to the Virgin Mary and she said “yes” to becoming
the mother of the Messiah. Help us to say “yes!” to whatever it is you are
calling us to do. we want to serve the Father and make Jesus’ love more evident
in the world around us. R/-
9.
Holy
Spirit, we have our own expectations about what we should and should not
do. we now surrender to you our ideas, our limitations, our preferences, and
our goals. Fill us, Holy Spirit, with all your supernatural gifts! Empower us
to accept and grow in the supernatural life as much as the early disciples did.
we want to be useful to you. we want to go where you lead us. Holy Spirit, send
us forth gifted and empowered to make a difference spreading the Good News of
God’s forgiving love. R/-
Come, Holy Spirit;
renew us. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
Concluding Prayer:
Holy Spirit, I humbly request
that the fruits you have planted within us, your faithful servants,
grow and blossom into a revival. Birth within us your never-failing love, so
pure and so true, to love those around us. Resurrect the unspeakable
joy we once knew to bring happiness wherever we go. We make this in the name of
Jesus, our Lord.
