Lent 3 B - Cleansing of the Temple
From Fr. Tony Kadavil:
Gospel: John 2: 13-25
Readings
First Reading: Exodus 20: 1-17
Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 1: 22-25Gospel: John 2: 13-25
Anecdotes
1)“Never argue with him when he's drunk!" A man was
driving without his seatbelt when he spotted a patrol car right behind him. He
grabbed for the belt and put it on. But it was too late, and the red lights
began to flash. "You weren't wearing your seatbelt," said the
officer. "Yes I was," said the man, "and if you don't believe
me, ask my wife." "So how ABOUT it, ma'am?" asked the cop.
"Officer," she said, "I've been married to this man for forty
years, and there's one thing I've learned: Never argue with him when he's
drunk! Just give him a ticket for not wearing the seat belt.” In today’s
Gospel, Jesus doesn’t bother to argue with the unjust merchants and money
changers who have converted the Temple of Jerusalem into a noisy “market place”
and a “hideout of thieves.” Instead, he frightens them with his angry order and
chases them away, holding a whip in his hands.
Tribal Body Modifications
Members of the Mursi tribe, Ethiopia Image: Marc Veraart Teeth sharpening, ear elongations, lip plates, nose studs and giraffe necks – beauty truly lies in the eye of the beholder. But whatever body modifications may be in vogue now, it’s all been done before by tribals around the world, often for hundreds of years. Let’s delve into the fascinating world of piercings and other body art and see some truly amazing pictures. The Mursi or Murzu are a nomadic cattle herder tribe living in Ethiopia close to the Sudanese border, one of the country’s most isolated regions. The Mursi population is estimated at 6,000 to 10,000. Mursi women are famous for wearing large plates in their lower lips, a sign of endurance, maturity and therefore beauty among the community. Cross and Life's Journey
Heavy CROSS ?????
Don't
miss the poem at the end.
Whatever
your cross,
whatever
your pain,
there
will always be sunshine,
after
the rain ....
Perhaps
you may stumble,
perhaps
even fall,
But
God's always ready,
To
answer your call ...
He
knows every heartache,
sees
every tear,
A
word from His lips,
can
calm every fear ...
Your
sorrows may linger,
throughout
the night,
But
suddenly vanish,
in
dawn's early light ...
The
Savior is waiting,
somewhere
above,
To
give you His grace,
and
send you His love ..
Whatever
your cross,
whatever
your pain,
"God
always sends rainbows ....
after
the rain ... " To get out of difficulty, one must usually go through it! |

I had not been preaching long at a rather "staid and proper" congregation when a fellow I did not recognize came forward at the invitation. Upon questioning, I found that Earnest Ray was from "up in the hills" and he had come to church that morning to be baptized. Not only that, but he brought all of his friends and relatives with him. He said he wanted his relative to baptize him.

When my daughter was about three I took her to bed and asked what she
would like to pray about. Promptly she answered: "onions." We prayed about
onions and the next morning I asked why she wanted to pray about onions.
"Because you said in your sermon that we should pray for things we dont
like."

Canaanite Woman and the Silence Of God
Sent by Gordon:
Silence Of God
God will come at an unexpected moment. He may not come as we
expect. But, certainly He will come. He will hear our prayer one
day. One day I was meditating on the conversation that took place between Jesus
and the Canaanite woman narrated in the Scripture (Mt15:21-28, Mk7:24-30). I was
a bit disturbed at the way Jesus humiliated that poor Canaanite woman.
She had a lot of expectations from Jesus. She was sure that her daughter
would be healed by the mighty power of Jesus. With this hope, she
came to Jesus. But, unfortunately, “He did not answer her at all”
(Mt.15:23). He was silent in front of her. All her expectations
were been shattered. Even the disciples came to her aid. But Jesus said, “I was
sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel” (Mt15:24).
But, she was persistent and did not leave him. She pleaded
with him again, “Lord help me”. He answered, “It is not fair to
take the children's food and throw it to dogs”. Though she was disappointed
again, she said, “Yes Lord, yet even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from
their master's table”. At last, this time, Jesus heard her prayer. He healed her
daughter.
