Bihar: People work 5 Years to turn the Course of a River
Pratapgarh villagers turn ‘Manjhi’ for a river
PRATAPGARH/ALLAHABAD: After five years of collective work, over 10,000 people in nearly 50 villages of Pratapgarh and Allahabad districts have been successful in bringing the Bakulahi river back to its natural course. If Bihar`s Dasrath Manjhi`s resolve to break mountain was for carving out a road, these Manjhis from Mandhata block of Pratagarh were determined to end their water woes. The entire digging work of about 18 km started in August 2011 and finished by July end this year.

Bishop Domnic Kimengich: Dignity and Service

He is Most Reverend Domnic Kimengich. He is the diocesan bishop of Lordwar, Kenya. He equated himself as one among his people and came down keeping his dignity ...and office for a while aside and carried the food grains along with the volunteers and the local youth for the poor hungry flock of his diocese. He set a wonderful example as a servant appointed by the servant of servants, not to master but to serve, to the rest of the bishops in the world. There is much to learn from him.

We are given the context of today’s story: it took place as Jesus was “returning from the district of Tyre”. He was passing “by way of Sidon towards the Sea of Galilee” and this brought him “right through the Decapolis region”. This reminds us that we must know how to leave our ordinary surroundings so that we can meet people like this man.
Today’s gospel passage is a healing story. We must be careful to interpret these stories correctly. For example, we would be wrong to draw the conclusion that since Jesus healed miraculously, all his followers are called to do the same. That would be to misunderstand the meaning of the miracles.
You may be the only Bible some people will ever read!'
Now this is the
Living Bible:
His name is Tim. He has
wild hair, wears a T-shirt with holes in it,
jeans, and no shoes. This was literally his wardrobe for his
entire four years of college.

Today’s passage contains several sayings of Jesus which are very well known; we must therefore make an effort to read the passage not as an abstract teaching but as a story, letting the message emerge from the interplay of characters.
