I publish this to warn. With so much of Social Media, all our actions and words - sometimes taken out of context go viral. Let's not be impulsive and too spontaneous in what we speak and the actions during the liturgy or preaching.
Lenten Activities For People
a) participating in the Mass daily or a few days in the week;
b) setting aside some part of my day for personal prayer;
c) reading some Scripture, alone or, better still, with others;
d) setting aside some money that I might spend on myself for meals, entertainment or clothes and giving it to an organization which takes care of the less fortunate in our society;
e) abstaining from smoking, alcohol and other evil addictions;
f) receiving the sacrament of reconciliation in Lent and participating in the “Stations of the Cross” on Fridays;
g) visiting the sick and those in nursing homes and doing some acts of charity, kindness and mercy every day in the Lent.

In many regions of the world people celebrate carnival in the days before Lent with much noise and merrymaking. Often they wear masks for the occasion. But today Lent begins, the time to put off our masks and to turn our face and heart to God and to people. In this holy season we reflect on the true meaning of our lives. Who am I and what am I living for? Am I living for God and the community? We shall be invited to receive ashes on our foreheads with the invitation, "Turn away from sin and be faithful to the gospel." Away, then, with all masks and return to God, to your true self and to one another as God's people.
Note. The penitential rite is omitted, since the rite of the ashes is a rite of penance and conversion.
My Lenten Journey of giving up social media
Take a look around campus next time you walk from one building to another. I would roughly say around half of the students walking are on their phones. It’s okay, I’m guilty of this too sometimes!
I wanted to take a step back and remember how it was like before social media by giving it up for Lent.
